We managed to read, snap, handstand and swing through August BUT we did a lot more and learned a thing or two along the way!
First up we learned how to be pen pals...found this awesome idea for a pen pal kit HERE on a favorite blog. Each girl got to choose one person for her pen pal. Brooklyn chose her cousin Aubrey and Kennedy chose her cousin Hannah who just started high school this year. It made me smile that K chose an older pen pal and I have had fun watching her write and ask questions and answer her back. No pen pal kit would be complete without mailing it away and any trip to the post office is memorable with us...there is nothing quick about our trip to the P.O. Especially when Carter starts finding any paper, trash, etc and starts shoving it in the closest blue slot. Wish I got a picture of our finished kits...oh well we will do them again next year.
We learned what it is like to take each girl out for her own evening to shop for back to school clothes and a dinner out...on a mom and dad only date! B took her time being a princess and admiring her crown in the mirror. Tried on clothes quickly and knew what she wanted and didn't want and couldn't wait to get to dinner, her fav Mexican restaurant. So bummed I forgot my camera with Kennedy's date but we spent WAY more time in her favorite store (J-U-S-T-I-C-E) and analyzing every glitter sparkly bling shirt you can imagine that there wouldn't have been much time for pictures. She, like her sister chose the same favorite Mexican restaurant. We LOVED spending the evening alone with each girl and I know each felt special - thanks to my friend Shawna for the great idea!
Date night wouldn't be complete without an ice cream stop, NEVER!
We learned how to NOT each ice cream the NORMAL way at Chik-fil-A this was only the beginning and towards the end it was everywhere but the laughs were plenty and that's the best sound!
She learned to conquer a fear and take the swim test at the club...passed it with flying colors and was OH SO PROUD!
That of course led to this....which was what she has been waiting to do since she was TWO!
These two learned to NOT throw up on the ferris wheel at the Aquarium...and to conquer their fear of riding a 2nd time. We had such a fun day with friends, more to share in another post.
We learned how many different rooms we could make forts in, this just one of many this summer that provided an escape!
We learned how to tie-dye shirts. The girls put this on their summer 2011 bucket and were excited to design, make and wear some new duds.
We introduced Carter to the many different ways of painting...with cars
And of course marbles...
And this was a FAVORITE activity of Kennedy's back in the day that is perfect for any little scientist in the kitchen; mixing water & food coloring with a medicine dropper. Holds attention for an insane amount of time!
These two learned to read too...I didn't hear them for awhile and came around the corner to this cute sight...and they didn't budge when I grabbed my camera to snap the moment. I am especially fond of Carter's feet in Brooklyn's hot pink ballet flats.
We learned how to enterain ourselves on a trip to go feed the turtles...when there were NO turtles that day. Lack of water this summer means lack of swim friends. Still managed to throw the bread!
And Carter's all time favorite thing he learned in August 2011...that he could listen to his favorite song on my ipod while dragging it across the house. Oh Happy Day by Hillsong United.
