Something Lost - Something Gained

Back in the middle of January both of the girls found themselves in opposite situations. One had lost something HUGE - a first! And the other, well she gained something HUGE - but both a testament to growing up which is so bittersweet for a mom. It's so exciting and I am so happy for them yet it's another simple reminder that time goes so very fast!

First up - Miss Brooklyn lost her VERY first tooth. Her little front left bottom tooth came out super early one morning (would we expect anything different from Brooklyn in the early department though?). This was the same weekend we were all super sick so this was definitely a silver lining of the weekend! She bounced down the stairs and was holding it firmly in her hand. She was so proud and her toothless smile now SUPER big and I was desperately trying to wake up enough to be the grand cheerleader of this very first in her little world. She had been patiently waiting and wiggling and trying to eat more apples than average but it was first thing that morning as she was checking to make sure it was still there that it finally came out! She couldn't wait to show her class and place it under her pillow that very night for the first official visit from the tooth fairy.

Besides that beautiful toothless smile, this is pretty much what the rest of the day looked like for Brooklyn

She spent her morning coloring a picture for the tooth fairy and was waiting to set it all up before bed that night

A friend had made this cute tooth fairy pillow for B back when we had one made for Kennedy. It has been hanging on the back of her door JUST waiting and waiting to be used for the last couple of years.

I had to add my own special request to Miss Tooth Fairy herself

She woke up the next morning (EARLY) and ran down with $2 and a cute little tooth receipt from the tooth fairy. And I was super excited that the tooth fairy left the first tooth for me as requested. BUT bad mom award goes to Moi after I grabbed the tooth the next afternoon when cleaning up and then Carter called for help with something. SO I didn't want to put it in my pocket and then wash it by mistake so like any good mom set it up on the rail next to the stairs - we all know mom's don't get distracted with 20 other things between helping Carter and getting so called lost tooth...well a couple of days later it dawned on me I never went back and grabbed the tooth :-(. I ran up as fast as I could and felt the area carefully and no tooth. Serves me right for probably trying to hand dust around teh house every time I walk by something that could use a quick dusting. So C'mon tooth #2 - I need you to redeem this mom moment for me and save the day!

So as B had her first "growing up" loss milestone - K was off gaining a "growing up" milestone. Girl got her ears pierced! She had been patiently waiting for soccer season to be over so she had the time to leave them in for 6 weeks. So it was a girls afternoon date and what a fun date we had. She was just a little bit nervous but her excitement far outweighed the nerves. We asked if her ears could be done at the same time which was definitely the WAY to go. They were so great with her and told her on the count of 5 they would pierce them...well when they got to 3 they did it and so it was over before she even realized. She just kept looking in the mirror and she handled it great. I can really tell in situations like this how much K is growing up and how she is handling things and what a blessing to watch her and celebrate a fun moment for my 10 year old! She had expressed interested in getting them pierced right around her birthday and I am so glad we waited until she was the one that wanted it because she has taken full responsibility for them. I helped for the first 10 days when they were a little more sensitive but after that it has been ALL Kennedy. I don't have to remind her to clean them, turn them, etc and her ears took to them great. She is now counting down  the next week so she can finally CHANGE earrings. Another fun day where she cannot decide between her new sets of earrings she spent her money on. Yay KK - you did it and they look adorable on your already beautiful face!
