Carter turned 18 mos. old yesterday (Nov. 8th)and he is everywhere. I had started posts for both his 16 and 17 months but they never were finished. And we all know how fast it goes so here we are and my little boy is 1 1/2. Ahhhh wasn't I just holding him in a sling, and shhhing him to sleep and still waking up a couple of times a night to nurse him and sneak back down to catch some sweet zzz's of my own. Now I hit the pillow hard because this boy keeps me busy! He is the sweetest and happiest little toddler...and I would say clutzy & accident prone but all my friends with boys just say he is simply a boy, none of the above. Well holy cow this boy falls and hits each and every body part from his mouth, chin, head, teeth, you name it more than once per day. Thank God our pediatrician just smiles when we walk in and says he has JUST the right amount of bumps and bruises for an 18 mos. old boy.
Carter has always been and still is a mama's boy but the neatest thing in the past two months has been that he has turned into a daddy's boy too. Those two are happiest putzing around outside doing who knows what, sitting watching footbal AND eating goldfish and wrestling. I love watching the two of them together and my heart gets big and beats faster when I do, seeing the love and bond between a dad and his son is something I am so grateful to know and watch since God blessed us with Carter!
Right now he is at the discovery stage and into everything. He can open any and every door and does so at the most important times of the day. Just tonight as I was making dinner I heard a crash and went to find this...

He is starting to sing the clean up song or at least knows what it means because we sing it MANY times throughout the day. He throws with the best of them, any and every object that fits perfectly in his little hands. Well not so little anymore, his hands have grown as fast as he has and taken a jump and dive from the days of holding a teether toy or batting at the playmat!

He loves to color, or at least pretend as he is walking away from me quickly with the open markers that he has found in the art closet. He is so very resourceful...way more than the other two seemed to be. If he is hungry or wants a snack he goes right to the pantry and opens it to find what he wants. Sometimes he will bring it to me, other times I find him sitting by the pantry with a box of crackers in his lap. And this is all within seconds, like seconds of me throwing a load of laundry in or putting something away. He is talking more and more and starting to put words together. Like tonight he wanted cheese, so he said cheese please.
He loves any and every big truck he sees on the road or emergency vehicles...it's like his little world freezes and he takes it all in any and every time a fire truck passes or an ambulance goes by. The garbage truck is seriously the highlight of the day. He dashes outside quicker than I can open the door and runs straight for the playground now. No more letting him play on the patio with some sand or some chalk. He wants to be big and keep up with his sissy's more than ever...and they indulge every last want, need and whine of his. Kennedy will take him outside and I will see her trying to teach him how to kick the soccer ball and Brooklyn will just jump on him and wrestle him anytime she finds him on the ground. I love the way they love him and I love the way he loves them back.
As busy and into any and everything right now the best part is him being this God made little boy who just knows any and all things having to do with water, dirt and cars...BUT the minute it is time for bed, he points to the rocking chair as if to say don't even think about not rocking me tonight. He snuggles deep into my shoulder, my left shoulder and wraps his left arm tightly around my neck and as we sing and talk about our day and I silently pray for the man I pray God makes him as he grows, he falls fast asleep and snores quietly into my neck. It's the simplest and most special time of my day and lets me take in any and every little jump he made that day, or new word, or temper tantrum he had for not getting his way. It's contentment in it's best form!
Carter knows EXACTLY what he wants! He is a big 27 pounds now, only a handful of pounds smaller than his middle sis! And his dr. looks at me and says now you know he's off the charts for height, right? I just smile and think I could have told you that. He loves to read still and I love when I turn around and he is sitting on the floor with an open book on his lap. He has totally fallen in love with Elmo, Elmo books, toys, etc and can say Elmo with the best of them! I am smitten needless to say with this ever growing, puddle stomping, chipped toothed little boy who has changed my life as a mama in a short eighteen months. Love ya little bruiser!
