Thanks Mom! Happy Mother's Day

Happy Mother's Day to all TWO of you who read my blog :-)...Mom & Aunt Betsy!!

In all seriousness though, it's a blessed and special day, one I feel grateful to share with the three little people who made me just that, a mommy! And also to say thank you to the one incredible gift of a mom I was blessed with. During the in's and outs of my days I think when I can, analyze with the best of them and ask myself lots and lots of questions. A lot of my questions turn into prayer so analyzing isn't all bad! But one of my many questions/prayers lately is wanting to make sure my babies know that I love them unconditionally. I ask God to teach me how to love each and every one of them for their uniqueness and gifts, strengths and weaknesses and for me to be able to give and love the way each of them need to be loved right at that moment or during that day.

We all know kids learn best by example, not by words. So today in saying thanks to my wonderful mom, I have to admire her teaching by example in the way to love her kids. She was selfless, patient, giving and gracious!  And the amazing thing about all this is she did it without Pinterest, Facebook, scrapbooking, a DVR or an iPhone! I know can you believe it, or as my kids would say, "how sad you didn't have all that way back then." I often times wonder how my mom did all she did. I remember her ironing every little piece of clothing we owned, down to the cheer briefs I wore UNDER my cheer uniform. She taught us importance of family by making and sharing time with all of our extended family which growing up around was such a blessing. She talked to anyone & everyone, anytime, from the grocery store checkout line, to the bleachers at a sporting event. She made a comfy home that would smell just that certain smell that made me breathe a sigh of relief when walking in the door from school back in 6th grade to sighing heavily in that "ahhh, I'm home-peace & comfort" on a weekend home from college. She loved my friends that I brought around and always made our home open and welcome to them. She was engaged, asking questions about school, friends, sports and even boys. And I even tell my kids as amazing as technology is these days and the ways it connects us to others (like how we were able to FaceTime 89 year old Nana Peeps on Easter) I am so thankful I grew up with a mom who wasn't distracted by Facebook, the computer, email, blogs and the wonderful iPhone so I didn't have to compete with all of that for her attention nor did she have to compete with us, her children for our attention, unless you include the hours of atari and then Ninetendo.

Thank you mom for being present, teaching me how to love my own children by the awesome example that you were, for making so many moments in life special from birthdays, to holidays, to milestones (and it has taken my own growth to realize special DOES NOT mean perfect!) and for the LOVE that only a mom can give to her kids. And I may have grown up to become a mom of my own, but there are more days now where I am so thankful, grateful and relieved to be able to call you up and share my joys, struggles and memories that I can truly appreciate and admire all that you did to be the mom you were. THANK YOU! You continue to amaze me in your growth and the way you embrace being a mom and a Nonie even more this past year and as your daughter I couldn't be more proud of you and couldn't be more thankful. And it doesn't change, even at 34 with my own blessings in tow, the appreciation just grows. I can attest to that because even now in the past month I have had the blessing of being back "home" not once, but twice and I just "sigh deeper and louder now" when I walk in her front door. Knowing just for that moment, or even for the weekend that I am home, the only home a mom can truly make.

Happy Mother's Day! I love you!

xoxo
