She Did It!

A friend from school had asked if K and I were interested in doing a 5K together at the end of May. It was put on by Girls on the Run which is an awesome group that supports tween girls and encourages them about everything from self esteem to confidence to standing strong. I asked K if she wanted to do it and she said YES! She loves to run at school and do little jogs around here but this was a whole new story.

Right after the race

Sarah, Kelsey, K & me after the race!

We were so proud of our girls. They rocked. Sarah and I were shocked because we went out jogging with our girls seperately throughout the last month + but not as much as we meant to. I talked to K though and told her it was something fun for us to do and we could do a walk/run 5K and that it would be an awesome experience. Well, those girls made us work! Sarah and I were laughing as the girls took off towards the front of the pack and were weaving in and out of people. And they kept running, and running. And when they did walk torwards the end, it was oh only for about 10 seconds.

K-I loved running with you, my girl. I loved sharing something we both love together. I loved waking up early and getting ready and heading out before the sun was up to drive to the race. I loved pinning our numbers on our shirts and lacing up our shoes. I loved watching you take off. I loved seeing you get tired and push yourself to finish. I loved high fiving after your first official 5K. So proud of you for trying something new, seeing you push yourself and surprising yourself with your finish.
Way to go!!!

She finished in 34 minutes!!! I think the last time I did a 5K (and we hustled at the end I finished in 31 minutes) She definitely ROCKED!
