We don't tend to do a lot during the summer - meaning we don't sign up for a lot of activities. I guess you could say at this age my kids (and this mama) are more of the homebody type. Sure we plan and do fun activities but I don't sign them up for camp after camp. At this age they prefer the summer days to be just that - SUMMER. no schedule, fitting in those activities that we want to do, and just relaxing oh and lots of swimming.
But, Kennedy did sign up for one art class that is taught by a local artist here who is in her 70's. She teaches the class out of her house in her closed off art room/patio. She is so kind, sweet and have taught so many kids over the years around here. And this was the perfect opportunity for a once a week class where Kennedy gets to stretch her creativity and for this rule follower to not have set rules and to paint away at something where there is no right and wrong. I could tell she was hesitant after the first class, not so sure this was for her. And then the 2nd and 3rd classes came and she was more comfortable. Well just this week after her 4th class she was glowing and so proud. She came home with her canvas and my jaw dropped. I was blown away that in just four classes her once blank white canvas became this beautiful scene that looked so real. Go KK! Can I have your autograph now?
And then there is Brooklyn - my no rule follower in the creativity department brings me this beautiful and sweet drawing the other morning. I never asked her to draw this although I secretly wish for lots and lots of family drawings. These are my favorite and I love to see how they change through the years. I told her I can't wait to frame this one and display it proudly. And I love how she has a handful of words right now that she can spell on her own and that she put one of them on top. Love you my little artist! You draw one special family!!
