Aunt Betsy had a great idea of hiring a photographer that night so that we had someone to really capture the evening from the beginning and so that it took the pressure off of the two of us (the family photographers) so that we could relax and enjoy the evening as well. I know my mom has been wishing she had some nice family pictures of us for awhile now and I knew she would love this. So when Aunt Betsy offered it as a gift idea from them and had a friend's daughter who was trying to get her photography business up and running the wheels started turning. After talking with her about our family and what we were looking for I knew she was a perfect fit. If you are looking for family pictures in the AZ area please look up Jennifer Wicker Photography! She is fabulous and fit in perfectly with our crazy group.
We had told my mom that we wanted to take her out to a nicer dinner on Saturday night to celebrate her birthday. We told her we were going to invite Aunt Betsy, Uncle Butch and Cousin Jean to join us. We asked her where she wanted to go...she said casual. Up until that morning we had played it off like come on mom, don't you want to go get a steak somewhere nicer, it's your 60th. We "called" around asking for reservations and finally had one, a pretend one that is. So she knew to be ready at a certain time and towards the end I thought for sure she knew something was up. I mean my family was coordinating clothes for goodness sake and then she walked out with a coordinating top and I thought for sure she knew something. The trolley pulled up to the house and was so loud but we ran around closing blinds. The photographer was hiding in the bushes and all we needed was her to walk out of the house. We couldn't get her out...she was dawdling because we were all ready early (another thing that should have tipped her off). We finally got her out of the house and out she walked to the trolley...she was surprised and so excited. What she didn't know is that there were more surprises along the way. We took the trolley and met more family at a shopping center where they parked their cars and jumped in...so at that point we acted as if that was it. The trolley, the family and she knew then that we were going to dinner somewhere, but not at a steak restaurant.
