Our Patch Princess

In some pictures the last few months Brooklyn has had her cute little patches on. She has had to wear them two hours a day and from day one has rarely complained. She keeps on chugging patch or no patch and it hasn't stopped her one bit from dancing, singing, reading, playing and doing all things 110% the way this girl can do them!

Even Kirkland (the doll) has been wearing patches too!

We have been seeing a pediatric opthamologist for the past 6 months after we discovered a lazy eye last summer, 2009. After patching daily and doing some eye exercises her dr. has decided that the eye muscle surgery is the best bet so she doesn't end up worse and losing some vision.

Brooklyn is truly this little light in our family. She has her own little personality that each one of us treasure to the core. Her BIG personality is one of it's own thing. Sometimes the girl can get so mad that she just cries and screams to get it all out. She says I am just so mad, bawls up her little fist and her face gets bright and red and she just cries. Don't we all have days like that! Other days she is so full of hugs and kisses and is the little mommy and teacher to her brother that is the sweetest. She rolls with the punches, is flexible, independent, doesn't complain or make a big deal of things (I mean here and there but for goodness sakes she is a girl and we all have a lil drama in us). She is a take it in stride kinda girl and she gets that goodness and laid back kind of style from her daddy!

The date of her last check-up to determine whether she would need the surgery was a family affair. We were all in the office and her dr. came in to do some tests. There it was confirmed that she would need surgery, which happens to be this Thursday. While her dr. was sitting there explaining it to us, and us throwing back a hundred and one questions I looked over and see Brooklyn slouched down in the chair just hanging out. I realized here we were talking over her head about a surgery she was going to have. So I stopped and said hey Brookie, Dr. P is just telling us that eye muscle surgery is going to be the best thing to get your eyes BIG and strong and not blurry anymore. And the best part is you won't have to wear your patches anymore. She shrugged her shoulders, gave me a quick little smile to entertain the facts of what I told her and went back to watching Nemo on the screen they had playing in the office. So we, our whole family of five, digesting this newfound news and making sure Carter didn't crawl into the pretty hospital fountains in the waiting room walk out together into the bright morning. I am holding Brooklyn's hand and pushing Carter in the stroller, Tim behind us walking next to Kennedy. So I hear KK asking Tim about Brooklyn's surgery since I could tell she only half heard what the dr. had said because Nemo was on of course. Kennedy kinda gasped in her worried, protective, big sister/mommy tone and says, "she has to have the surgery?" Tim keeps going explaining and this whole time Brooklyn is just quietly walking next to me not saying a word when all of a sudden she just blurts out, "they are just taking my eye out of my head KK, don't worry!" If this doesn't define Brooklny's personality I don't know what does.

Please keep little B in your prayers this week before, during and after surgery.
