Brooklyn's 1st Day of School

To already be at the place of getting Brooklyn ready to head out the door to her first year of preschool was surreal. I tend to be a little extreme when it comes to sentimental memories and trying to remember all of the little details of special events and I can still picture taking Kennedy to her big first day of preschool; same classroom, same building, almost everything but Brooklyn was in my belly and weeks away from making her debut. And here it is her turn, the one who I was waiting for and so thankful for is now grown up enough to have her very own classroom! I found this email I had sent to family and friends (back in the day before blogs) and it made me smile...

Kennedy's 1st day of preschool was successful! She was really excited and there was no hesitation at the door whatsoever! She kissed and hugged Tim and me good-bye and walked right in the room without looking back. She put her stuff in her cubby and went right to the art table and colored. I made it to the car before I started crying and the house was so quiet without Kennedy talking my ear off...and eating lunch by myself was weird. BUT, as I was crying, princess #2 started kicking reminding me that I would have plenty of noise and distraction in less than a month...thanks God for that gentle reminder!

Tim always has been a part of the big first day of school...it was no different for Brooklyn and she of course decided that she wanted to ride with daddy. I snapped this picture from my car behind them waiting at a light (don't worry I wasn't driving). This is where I lost it with this one and the tears started flowing! Then again, what do I hear... sweet little Carter babbling from the backseat and so I dry my tears and already start making mental notes of all the books we are going to read and cars we are going to play with our time together!

She loved the 1st day! The excitement was in full force! I was relieved and happy to hear her relay all the details I wasn't as sure I was going to get from this child. I loved hearing her talk about playing on the playground with other little girls and tell me their names and who she wanted to invite to her birthday party :). That excitement was briefly interrupted as I was awoken from a deep sleep at 2:30am early Thursday morning with a hard tap on the shoulder and a soft whisper of "mommy, hey mommy, is tomorrow a school morning, do I have to go to school because mommy I don't want to go to school!" And that is how it went for two more weeks. It was the anticipation and the getting there part, never any tears, just more of a wonder in her little mind of how it was all going to go down. Once there she was happy as a clam. I hear you sweet pea...this is only the beginning of learning that the getting from one place to another in life is usually the scarriest and biggest part of learning...once there it's mostly a piece of cake!

We came home to the birthday sign but this is all we saw through
the fast and steady drops of rain

Cupcakes can make anyone forget about the rain! So needless to say we make
lots of cupcakes here in Texas!

When the rain stopped and the clouds moved on Miss Brooklyn after a quick nap was raring to go neverless with a pose or FIVE in front of her very own first day sign!

One of the things I love about Kennedy is she takes on the big sister role very seriously in sharing in the other's excitement and accomplishments of their big days! I LOVE LOVE that about her and am so proud of her and her big heart!

And these pictures below just make me laugh and share Brooklyn's personality a bit more. As I went to pack her backpack the night before I took it off her very own hook, opened it up and to my surprise it was already occupied...with what??? envelopes of course, her own letters, and coupons! This girls can stuff and collect more stuff in more bags than anyone else I have known. I think she gets that from her Nonie!

And this is just the perfect typical little brother move if I have ever seen one!
One of many I am sure!
